PhD Initiatives

As a fellow of HGS MathComp, you can apply for funding to start your own initiative for PhD students. Typically, this will be an event such as a workshop/conference for junior researchers. Other ideas may also qualify if you submit a strong proposal.

Available funding per application: € 4000

Eligible expenses:

  • Catering
  • Invited speakers (e.g. honorarium, accommodation, travel expenses)
  • Consumables
  • Advertising
  • Other expenses subject to discussion

Additional support:

  • Kick-off meeting to discuss the necessary administrative processes
  • Assistance with booking catering, advertising, and paperwork (such as contracts and invoices)

Requirements:

  • The event must benefit the wider PhD community of HGS MathComp, not only specific research groups.
  • For expenses exceeding the maximum grant (€ 4000), efforts to secure co-funding must be demonstrated.
  • Collaboration with partners (other graduate schools, departments at other universities, other student groups) is strongly encouraged.
  • Applicants handle all organizational tasks such as researching catering options, booking rooms, and participant registration.
  • Successful applicants agree to help future applicants by sharing their experiences.

Application:

  • Deadlines: 30.04. and 30.10. of each year
  • Required documents: Tentative scientific program and financial plan (including co-funding, if applicable)
  • Please submit your application via the funding application form.
