The HGS MathComp & IWR Guest Fellows Program aims to strengthen international collaboration between doctoral students. Any HGS MathComp and IWR member – PhD, Postdoc, or PI - can invite a doctoral student affiliated with an international university for one to three months.

Please refer to the regular guest program for information about inviting researchers for shorter stays.

Accommodation in a HGS MathComp guest apartment and a daily allowance of 24 € per day (as per the regulations of the university) are funded. The travel should be funded by the sending institution. Should this not be possible (e.g. for emerging or developing nations), you can make a hardship claim.

Stays of one month are fully funded by HGS MathComp. Stays of two or three months are 50% co-funded by the hosting research group. The group’s share is waived and covered by IWR for collaborative applications of two or more groups.

• Costs per month: approx.. 1650.00 €
• Maximum funding by HGS MathComp: 2500.00 €
• Maximum funding by IWR: 2500.00 €
  • Additional funding for travel (hardship): 500.00 €
• Any costs exceeding the maximum funding are borne by the hosting group(s).
• An extension of the stay at the expense of the hosting group(s) is possible.

The application should be submitted as early as possible so that the guest apartment can be reserved. We recommend you contact us beforehand to confirm an apartment is available for the intended duration of the visit. The application must be supported by another group. This does not apply to joint applications.

To apply, complete the application form, including:

• Detailed description of project to be undertaken in each hosting group
• Contribution to the local PhD community, e.g. a talk given by the guest
• Confirmation of support by another group (if applicable)

Please note

• Applications by members without (substantial) funding of their own will be given preference.
• HGS MathComp apartments accommodate one person.
• The organization of the stay (host contract, travel planning, visa documents, organizational support on site, etc.) is carried out by the working group(s).
• The rent for the guest apartment is 795.00 €/month. Should the guest be lodged in an external accommodation for any reason, the costs will be covered to up to 795.00 €/month. 19 % tax must be paid on the daily allowance. This is included in the budget above. The net amount paid to the guest is 24.00 € per day.
