# Statistics

**Objectives**

Statistical and probability theory provide persuasive tools for the collection, presentation, analysis, interpretation, and explanation of data, with critical uses in essentially all branches of the natural, social, and life sciences, organizations, government, and industry.

The objective of the specialization "Statistics" in the International Masters Program of Scientific Computing is to study tools and methods of mathematical statistics, probability theory, stochastic modeling, and data analysis, and to apply them to important real world problems.
