First Annual Colloquium 2009
HGS MathComp held the first Annula Colloquium at the BioQuant in Heidelberg. Doctoral students, mentors, supervisors and guests took the opportunity and discussed in detail the projects and research areas currently represented in the graduate school. The after-work-party at the DAIprovided a different setting to continue discussions throughout the evening.
Quick Entry

During the Quick Entry Application three graduate students of HGS MathComp were accepted for a three year stipend period. Congratulations to Anamaria Bodea ( 
AG Applied Analysis), Miriam Fritsche ( AG Theoretical Biophysics) and Patrick Sauer ( AG Multidimensional Image Processing).
Joint stipend selection in cooperation with ViroQuant
November, 15th 2008
ViroQuant and the HGS MathComp jointly selected three students to be funded by a three years doctoral stipend. All students who where selected in this cooperation will persue their research projects in the ViroQuant project and receive the training part of their education in the HGS MathComp program.
First Application Round

In the first application round for membership in the HGS MathComp held in May 2008 a total of 42 PhD students was selected and accepted. Together with 18 student members from IGK 710 and 10 student members from GK 850 the HGS MathComp currently has 70 doctoral students.
Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board of the Heidelberg Graduate School held its first meeting. The Executive Board is the responsible for all decisions regarding scientific as well as administrative issues. It consists of the chairman, two vice-chairmen and five representatives of the different research areas of HGS.
Modeling Day

The HGS MathComp officially announces the first Modeling Day (Modellierungstag), taking place at Heidelberg University on November, 20th 2008. The Modeling Day, jointly organized by the Graduate School, the IHK Rhein-Neckar and several companies from all around the Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar will focus on applications of modeling in industrial context and new directions for the modeling research.

Decisions on the Second Round of the Excellence Initiative Announced

Today the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) announced the results of the second round of the Excellence Initiative. We are proud to give notice that the Heidelberg Graduate School of Mathematical and Computational Methods for the Sciences was successful and is selected for funding within the graduate school program!
